Ars en Ré

Ars was the island's first sailing navigation port, it has bags of charm but has managed to remain unspoiled

. With the beaches of the côte sauvage never very far away from you. Like almost everywhere else on the island they cultivate grape vines, fruit and vegetables and grains.

Salt marshes and oyster farms are also prevalent.

The first thing that you notice when you approach the town of Ars, by land as well as by sea, is the white bell tower with the black painted arrow.
Counted among the 'Most Beautiful Villages in France', Ars en Ré is home to the largest port on the island, housing more than 500 moorings. The town is laid out between the port and its cafes, the church and the market, which all attract a number of visitors. Surrounded on all sides by the sea and salt marshes, small scale farms and vineyards, Ars en Ré really does have an undeniable charm.

To be missed : l'huitrière de Ré
